Gillespie County Historical Society announces $1000 scholarship for essay

The Gillespie County Historical Society is offering a $1000 scholarship to the college entry-level student submitting the best essay on Gillespie County history.
Qualified students can submit an original essay or book report on any topic related to the history of Gillespie County, according to Jody Donovan, Scholarship Chair and Society Board Member.
“We would like the student to visit and use the resources of the Society and to bring their classmates, friends, and family,” Donovan said. Those resources include the Pioneer Museum Complex, with artifacts, books, buildings, and pioneer activities; and the Vereins Kirche Museum, with more artifacts, photos, and books.
Information is also available online at www.pioneermuseu.net.
The contest is open to any Gillespie County resident taking entry level (freshman) classes in the current or next school year, at any accredited college.

The essay must be between 2,000 and 3,000 words, typed, and delivered to the Society, 312 W. San Antonio St., Fredericksburg, TX 78624, or emailed to
info@pioneermuseum.net. Include all contact information. Deadline for submission is May 31, with thewinner notified in July. The funds will awarded with proof of purchase (receipts) from an accredited school,
book store, or school supplies.
The funds are provided through a bequest from Flora Wertheim, to reward the student that expresses themost enthusiasm in learning local history. The mission of the museum is to share the cultural panorama of the Texas Hill Country through experiences that enlighten and inspire.
