Economic News: Week February 22, 2010

By Tony Stevenson:
The stock market ended last week on a much higher note with the DOW up by 9 points to  record its best week in more than three months. It was the strongest point gain since November.

The GOP has a difference of opinion about the Obama administrations view that the American Recovery and Investment Act helped erase fears that a second depression is no longer a possibility.  That debate could go on and on and not get us any closer to the reality of jobs and health care creation if both sides do not agree to a joint solution.  Only history will tell.

But, in reality, only new jobs creation and consumer spending will tell us the immediate effects of TARP.  San Antonio is set to gain jobs this year according to all reports. With  jobs should come a better housing market and a local uptick in consumer spending.  What happens in the San Antonio/Austin sectors also carries over to the Texas Hill Country.
