Fredericksburg's Friendly Blog

A great place to find real estate info and all things Fredericksburg.

Woerner Feed, Garden Supply will host a free gardening class March 19th.  There is no cost to attend the Saturday-long schedule of seminars and activities; however, those planning to attend are asked to donate an item to the Fredericksburg Food Pantry.

Business owner, Zane and Anne Woerner will offer music, prizes, specials and giveaways suitable for families from 10 am to 3 pm.

10:00 am – Andy Chidester, 14 year master gardener/composter will lead a seminar on growing and harvesting vegetables, fruits and herbs organically.   She will discuss organic alternatives to chemical gardening – using Texas-made and university-tested products to keep bugs and diseases away from plants while beefing up healthy microbes.  She will also answer questions on how to keep a water shed free of synthetic products while protecting drinking water.

11:30 am – 15 year horticulture veteran with California’s Dave Wilson Nursery, LeeAnn Barton, will share information on how to choose plant and care for fruit trees, now that the harshest part of winter is finished.

1:00 pm – Ms. Chidester will return to offer a seminar on how to grow an herb garden in local soil and then use it to its fullest.  She will offer flavor sampling of selected herbs, teach the basics of drying herbs and how to make herbal dips, oils, vinegars, butters and cheese.

An array of free gardening activities will be provided for children.  Musical entertainment will be provided by Mike Church of Fredericksburg.

Woerner Feed is located at 305 S. Lincoln Street.  For more information phone them at 830-997-2246.
