2013 Local Lodging Occupancy Tax Collections Set Records

Lodging occupancy tax (HOT) collected in calendar 2013 in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County set all-time records according to figures recently released by the city and county.
According to the City Finance Department, City of Fredericksburg HOT collections for 2013 totaled $2,210,321, up 16.49% from 2012. This is the first time collections for a calendar year exceeded the $2 million mark. In 1984, the first year HOT was collected by the City of Fredericksburg, records indicate the grand total was $94,316. Fairly significant growth by anyone’s standards!
Gillespie County has been collecting HOT only since 2007 when collections were $226,125. For calendar 2013, collections reached $354,297, up 26.02% from 2012, according to the County Treasurer.
