In The Radio Post issue from October 26, 1972 the agriculture and livestock produced $12 to $13 million. Sheep were credited with 120,000 breeding age ewes and a lamb crop of 96,000. As of January 1, 2010 Gillespie County had 38,800 sheep. IN 1972 there were 30,000 cows in the county. Beef cows in 2010 were 39,000. IN 1972 turkeys represented a large segment of agricultural income. In fact the Gillespie-Blanco county area composed the largest area of independent growers in the US. Today there are very few turkey farms.
