According to The Radio Post issue from October 26, 1972 using 1970 statistics Gillespie County had an estimated total of 1575 farms with an average acreage of 435 acres to the farm, 1450 farm owners and about 15 farm tenants. The 1956-57 Almanac report 1,356 farms.The 1970 Almanac said that Gillespie County derived 90 percent of its income from cattle, sheet, goats, hugs, poultry; goats were decreasing, hogs and turkey were increasing.
